Cameron Russell is an amazing speaker and thoroughly showed me a major problem with women's image to society today. She is an accomplished model and an inspirational person in all.
Cameron starts off this talk by using a clever way to make her idea come to life. She shows the audience from the beginning that most people do judge by looks and that unfortuantely a lot of people look past intelligence and look straight for sex appeal. Then she goes into explaining how a lot of little girls want to be models when they grow up and how everyone thinks models are rare, constantly happy people when it is not the case. Cameron makes two very big points in her presentation. Becoming a model as well as being one is not the fairytale people make it out to be. The other is that people are too quick to look past intelligence in pretty women. Both of these points are very valid today in my opinion. Especially the first one saying that many people think of modeling as a dream come true when in reality Cameron explains that it is not a realistic career path.
This talk really opened my eyes to how a lot of people look at girls/women just for appearance and not intelligence. It opened my eyes to see that people are judged unfairly and it is a common occurrence. I have learned from this video that just because you're pretty doesn't mean you are not intelligent, which is an unfortunate stereotype nowadays. Cameron has been experiencing this since she was a young girl. As she explained that being beautiful is actually a downfall sometimes to woman today. I think it was truly amazing because many girls aspire to be beautiful, not intelligent. This opens up a whole new issue with young girls and their aspirations. As Cameron said, many girls aspire to be a model when they grow up, but Cameron tells them that there are so many more rewarding jobs that girls could do. I will really make an effort to look at the whole picture now instead of just the things that are easy to see. What I mean by this is that I will not make judgements just by the fact of how someone looks, I will really try to see what is on the inside. I will encourage other people to do the same. I recommend this video to everyone.
